The eye-catching, high-contrast jersey in various shades of green that Bora-Hansgrohe gave itself for the new season could be a thing of the past sooner than you might think. Because as the Gazzetta dello Sport recently reported, the new partner Red Bull, who secured a 51 per cent stake in the team's operating company at the end of JanuaryThe new team name will already be visible on the jerseys and especially in the team name for the Tour de France, which starts this year on 29 June.
The Italian sports newspaper reported that several sources from the company had considered making the move, as speculated by many, not just for the new 2025 season, but already in the summer, when not only the entire cycling world, but also a large part of the entire sports world is looking to France. The German discounter Lidl made the same move last summer when it became the main sponsor of the American team shortly before the Tour, which has since operated under the name Lidl-Trek and thus become one of the heavyweights in the World Tour.
The Bora-Hansgrohe team will then become Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe. The world cycling organisation UCI allows up to three name sponsors in its regulations. And team manager Ralph Denk will probably want to make full use of this out of solidarity with his two old partners. The two companies are said to have already agreed to the renaming. However, it is unlikely that Red Bull will tolerate shared naming rights in the long term. At least the Austrian manufacturer of energy drinks has not yet agreed to this with its other commitments in Formula 1, ice hockey, football or various trend sports.
In addition to the new name, the outfit will also change. Bora's previous supplier Sportful is said to already be working on the new design. The dominant colours in the Red Bull universe are red, white and a dark blue. Everything clashes with the current colours, which is why a new retread will be unavoidable. This also applies to the Specialized bikes, which are to be predominantly red in future.
