The son of former cycling idol Dietrich "Didi" Thurau had switched from Team Europcar to the German racing team for the current season. His non-nomination for the Tour de France in July had led to major disagreements between Thurau and his employer.
"Björn would like to ride in a team in the future where he can develop his qualities even better. Björn is a passionate racing driver who is known for his combative driving style. For team tactical reasons, he has not always been able to prove this with us this season," explained Team Manager Ralph Denk.
Thurau wants to announce his new team "in the next few days". According to the Bora press release, he summarised: "In a team, it's like in real life: after the initial euphoria, it can happen that you realise that you have different ideas about the common path."
