An era is coming to an end: after 28 years, the insurance company AG2R La Mondiale is withdrawing from the highest class of cycling. Decathlon takes over the team completely at the end of the season and announces a new co-sponsor.

With a new owner and new co-sponsor, the team wants to get off to a fresh start in 2026. The former Team Decathlon - AG2R is getting a new co-sponsor in CMA CGM. According to Decathlon spokesperson Céline Del Genes, the new Decathlon-CMA CGM team will have more than 40 million euros at its disposal from the coming season. The CMA CGM Group is a global shipping and logistics company headquartered in Marseille. The company made a new investment in the media sector in 2024 and since then has owned the news channel BFMTV, the radio station RMC and other media outlets. CMA CGM was also a sponsor of the Paris Olympic Games.

The sponsorship agreement runs for five years. According to the press release, the larger budget is linked to the desire to catch up with the best teams in the world. In particular, the team wants to invest in young talent. Team manager Dominique Serieys explained on television that they want to compete with the Visma | Lease a Bike and UAE Team Emirates teams. He even named the overall victory in the Tour de France by 2030 as a bold goal. No budget was officially announced - the rumoured 40 million euros would be a sum in the mid-range of team budgets. According to estimates, the budget of UAE Team Emirates should be between 55 and 60 million euros per year.
