The 50-year-old former cycling star, who was stripped of his seven Tour de France victories for doping, posted photos of the meeting at a cycling camp on Instagram. "It's impossible to put into words what it means to me (and millions of others) to see this man back and healthy," Armstrong wrote. "I'm so proud of you champ and I love you deeply and will always be there for you."
Hincapie also at the meeting
Armstrong's former helper George Hincapie, who produces a podcast together with the Texan, was also present at the meeting in Spain. Armstrong's former team boss Johann Bruyneel was also present. The camp for wealthy customers, which had been planned for a year, had been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Armstrong and Ullrich had fought thrilling duels in the Tour in the early 2000s, with the American always coming out on top. While Armstrong's doping past caught up with him after his career, Ullrich's health plummeted. On Armstrong's 50th birthday a week ago, the 47-year-old wrote in "Bild am Sonntag": "A good three years ago, in the most difficult phase of my life, you, dear Lance, were there for me. You gave me a helping hand and showed me that the greatest rival can become a true friend. Your support has contributed to the fact that I am healthy again today and have my life under control."
