Berlin (dpa) - After the serious accident with a support car at last year's Tour de France, professional cyclist Johnny Hoogerland wants to sue the TV company Euro Media.

As the Dutchman's manager reported to the daily newspaper "De Telegraaf", the French production company has shown no interest in an out-of-court settlement despite negotiations. "That's why we now have to take a different path," said Aart Vierthouten. The 29-year-old professional cyclist will be competing in France again this year.

Hoogerland was hit by a Euro Media car in a breakaway group on stage 9 of the 2011 Tour and thrown into a barbed wire fence. The rider from Team Vacansoleil was able to finish the stage covered in blood and even arrived in Paris in great pain. "Thank God I'm still alive," Hoogerland emphasised shortly after the collision. Twelve months later, he was still suffering from back pain, mood swings and insomnia.
