Bucharest (dpa) - During a drug raid in eastern Romania, most of the racing bikes that were stolen from the Italian national track cycling team a week ago on the sidelines of the world championships in Roubaix have been found.

Four people were taken into custody in the course of the investigation and searches, the police authorities announced. The Italian team led by Olympic and world champion Filippo Ganna had 22 high-performance bikes from a luxury brand stolen from a van parked in front of the hotel. They are said to have a total value of 600,000 euros. They had been conspicuously painted in gold after the Olympic victory of the track foursome in Tokyo.

21 bikes were seized during the raid, along with other stolen goods and drugs. The police announced at a press conference that the suspects had tried to sell the stolen bikes for 1,500 euros each.
