All eyes – particularly in France – are on Team Decathlon CMA CGM: will the French team field their mega-talent Paul Seixas at the start of the Tour?

Much like its main sponsor, Decathlon, is expanding its business, Team Decathlon CMA CGM is currently one of the fastest-developing and most ambitious teams on the World Tour. This is also evident in the form of the 19-year-old French prodigy, Paul Seixas. In the spring, he was on several occasions the only remaining rival to Tadej Pogačar and finished runner-up in Pogačar’s victories. By winning the Tour of the Basque Country – ahead of Florian Lipowitz – he made yet another strong statement. It remains to be seen whether the team will take the young Frenchman to the Tour – and if so, with what expectations. The squad also features another top talent in the 25-year-old Dutchman Olav Kooij, albeit as a sprinter. Felix Gall, who finished fifth in the 2005 Tour, competed in this year’s Giro and is set to ride the Vuelta a España, so he will not be starting in France.

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
