As of this year, Cofidis is technically just a second-tier team, but it has been an integral part of the Tour for almost 30 years
The Cofidis team is, so to speak, a fixture of the Tour de France: even as a second-tier team, the French side can count on receiving an invitation to the Tour

The French team has a history that is as long as it is eventful. Its roots go back to 1997, which, as we now know, coincided with the early days and heyday of EPO doping. In 2004, the team was rocked by a doping scandal that threatened its very existence. Alongside this, the team has consistently fielded renowned professionals who have left their mark on the Tour de France or French cycling as a whole, such as Sylvain Chavanel, David Moncoutie and Christophe Laporte.

Emanuel Buchmann, who joined the team last year, has had a rather unremarkable season so far. In Bryan Coquard and Dylan Teuns, the team has two riders in its ranks who can excel in bunch sprints and on stages with a classics-style profile. The Spaniard Ion Izagirre brings a wealth of experience in stage races, but at 37 years of age, he is likely to have passed his peak.

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
