Close to the podium: Bahrain-Victorious is well placed to secure a top-ten spot in the general classification

The Slovenian-led team boasts a strong squad and is among the frontrunners in both one-day classics and stage races. Criticism of the team’s founder and sponsor, Prince Nasser, has receded into the background.

With Lenny Martinez, Bahrain-Victorious has a promising talent in its ranks, although he has not yet delivered consistently. This year, Antonio Tiberi and Pello Bilbao are also set to line up alongside Martinez. The team therefore has several riders who can compete for a place in the general classification, even if they may not be in contention for the top three places.

With professionals such as Matej Mohorič, a stage victory is also a possibility. The 31-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the table and really comes into his own on fast descents. The Slovenian has already proven on several occasions that he is capable of pulling off spectacular solo victories.

As a student of German and political science, the flawless amateur sportsman once decided to try his luck as a journalist. His passion for racing bikes led him straight to the TOUR editorial team as an intern, which has since become an affair of the heart that has lasted more than 30 years, 16 of them as editor-in-chief. As a - in his own words - "generalist in the cycling niche", he is interested in all topics relating to road bikes (and gravel bikes) and is still particularly enthusiastic about racing today. Highlights of his own career as a racing cyclist include taking part in the TOUR-Transalp, the odd everyman race and regular Alpine tours with friends.
