Jonas Vingegaard recently won the Tour of Poland, which was also his last race of the year
The 2024 season is over for two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard. After his crash in April, his impressive comeback at the Tour de France and his victory at the Tour of Poland, the Dane is focussing on his family and recovery in order to be able to attack again in 2025.

Jonas Vingegaard will no longer be at the start of a race in 2024. In a report by the cycling magazine Bike this was confirmed by his team Visma | Lease a Bike. "Jonas is done for the year. His wife is about to give birth to their second child, and as an athlete he needs to recover after this intense spring and summer," a team official told Bike.

Jonas Vingegaard endures a turbulent season

Vingegaard has had a turbulent year. To be more precise: a turbulent five months. He crashed heavily at the Tour of the Basque Country in April. In May, he started training again and got himself in shape for the Tour de France. Contrary to expectations, he was the only one there who was able to follow the dominant Tadej Pogacar for a long time. Vingegaard recently won the Tour of Poland and lived up to his role as favourite. "It's great to fight back in this way after everything that happened in the spring," said Vingegaard after securing the first overall victory of his career in Poland.

Focus on regeneration and family: Vingegaard cancels 2024 season

Jonas Vingegaard's wife Trine Marie Hansen is pregnant with their second child. This prompted the two-time Tour champion to cancel the 2024 season and devote himself to the next family highlight. Added to this is fatigue after gruelling weeks at the Tour de France and his comeback process. The Dane wants to recharge his batteries for the 2025 season, in which he will once again focus on winning the Tour de France overall.

Maik Schröder was born in East Westphalia and prefers to ride through the countryside on his gravel bike. The tour can also include a culinary stop to fortify himself for the next few kilometres. Even if there are few metres of altitude to conquer in the flatlands, he has the ambitious goal of completing a Transalp one day. As online editor, he is responsible for creating digital editorial content such as news reports, new products and event coverage.
