Bruges (dpa) - Cycling team Bora-hansgrohe and team boss Ralph Denk have ticked off the 2021 season for Lennard Kämna.

"Lennard is well integrated back into training, but he won't be racing again this year. However, I am optimistic that we will see a normal Lennard next year," Denk told the German Press Agency during the Road World Championships in Flanders, Belgium, for which Kämna has not been nominated.

The 25-year-old took part in his last competition to date at the beginning of May and then withdrew due to physical problems. Later, when last year's Tour de France stage winner missed the 2021 Tour of France, he also reported a mental block.

"It's more a case of physical wear and tear, and of course it affects his mind. But it's not that he has mental problems. He simply needed the creative break," explained Denk. In the meantime, however, the training data looks good again. Denk was confident that Kämna would be able to build on his strong previous performances, including at the 2021 Tour of Catalunya.
