Maximilian Schachmann's move to Bora-hansgrohe, André Greipel's signing with French second-division rider Fortuneo and Tony Martin's departure from Katusha-Alpecin - since the transfer window opened on 1 August, there has been a lot of movement on the cycling transfer market, especially from a German perspective. Marcel Sieberg and Phil Bauhaus (both to Bahrain-Merida) as well as Simon Geschke (after ten years with Sunweb to BMC successor CCC) are also looking for new challenges. The talented Max Kanter, twice consecutive German U23 champion, is venturing into the professional peloton with Sunweb. Also new to the World Tour: Jonas Koch with Team CCC. Roger Kluge moves from Mitchelton-Scott to Lotto-Soudal together with top sprinter Caleb Ewan.
But other promising riders have also signed with another team for 2019 - Michael Valgren is swapping the Astana jersey for the new Dimension Data jersey, Tejay Van Garderen is switching from BMC to Education First and his former captain Richie Porte wants to attack again with Trek-Segafredo. Fernando Gaviria moves from Quick Step, where junior world champion and super talent Remco Evenepoel is set to take his first steps with the pros, to UAE Emirates. The Sky armada loses an important helper in Sergio Henao, who also moves to the Persian Gulf.
