On the 17th stage of the 109th Tour de France, the riders only have to cover 128.7 kilometres. But the route from Saint-Gaudens to Peyragudes is a tough one. Four mountain classifications are on the programme, three of which belong to the first category.
The stage ends with the dreaded arrival at the Altiport. Shortly before the finish, the climb is up to 16 per cent steep. Although the arrival is not really high at 1580 metres in altitude, the stage has the potential to create gaps in the overall classification.
