Feierte in Turin seinen insgesamt sechsten Giro-Tagessieg: Simon Yates.

Professional cyclist Simon Yates has won the 14th stage of the 105th Giro d'Italia.

The 29-year-old Briton, who had already won the individual time trial on the second stage in Budapest, came out on top after 147 challenging kilometres from Santena to Turin with a lead of 15 seconds over the Australian Jai Hindley and the two former Giro winners Richard Carapaz (Ecuador) and Vincenzo Nibali (Italy). Emanuel Buchmann from Ravensburg was the best German in ninth place in the daily classification, 70 seconds behind Yates, and defended his top 10 position.

Carapaz slips into pink - Buchmann seventh

However, 2019 overall winner Carapaz was able to take the overall leader's pink jersey after the stage, which featured more than 3,000 metres of climbing and was previously worn by Spaniard Juan Pedro López for ten days. Carapaz now leads Hindley by seven seconds. His Bora-hansgrohe team-mate Buchmann improved to seventh place overall and is 1:58 minutes behind Carapaz. "It was a very intense and tough stage. We are totally happy to have the pink jersey. Now comes the most difficult part of the Giro," said Carapaz afterwards.

The 2022 Tour of Italy continues on Sunday with the 15th stage over 177 kilometres from Rivarolo Canavese to the mountain finish in Cogne. The 105th Giro will finish in Verona on 29 May.
