The queen's stage is the 16th section with Passo Fedaia, Passo Pordoi and Passo Giau. Hobby cyclists will be familiar with parts of the route from the Maratona dles Dolomites. Special features include 34 kilometres of gravel road in Tuscany and a finish on stage 9 with a finale on an unpaved road. Only six flat stages offer opportunities for sprinters.
