Domenico Pozzovivo started his professional career with Ceramica Panaria - Navigare in 2005. The team to which Pozzovivo belonged until 2012 is now called VF Group-Bardiani CSF - Faizane. At the last minute, so to speak, the 41-year-old Italian has now signed a one-year contract with manager Roberto Reverberi's team.
It feels like the script from a film, but returning to the team where I started my professional career 19 years ago has finally become a reality - Domenico Pozzovivo
The climbing specialist from Policoro in southern Italy was already extremely late in the last two years when it came to signing new contracts. He only signed on with Intermarche-Wanty-Gobert in mid-February 2022 and with Israel-Premier Tech in early March 2023.
Pozzovivo's main task with his new employer is to guide the young riders - including at the Giro d'Italia in May, where the second-division rider will start with a wild card. It would be Pozzovivo's 18th participation in the Tour of Italy. This would equal the record set by his compatriot Wladimiro Panizza between 1967 and 1985.

"Beating Panizza's record is one of the main motivations," Pozzovivo told the Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. "I also had to abandon the Giro d'Italia last year and couldn't even start in the Tour of Lombardy. That would have been a very sad farewell," said the cycling veteran, who added: "And to be clear. I'm not thinking of quitting after the Giro 2024, but at the end of the season after the Tour of Lombardy."
