Gerade im Frühjahr kommt es während der Paarungszeit oft vor, dass die Elstern Fußgänger oder Fahrradfahrer attackieren.
A fantastic course right on Wollongong City Beach, plenty of sunshine and bronze in the U23 class to boot: Ricarda Bauernfeind's trip to Australia for the Road World Championships in Wollongong could hardly have gone better.

If only it weren't for those pesky Magpies. "Apart from the bird attacks, everything is fine," said the 22-year-old the German Press Agency and reported two attacks by magpies in the last few days.

Especially in spring, during the mating season, the "angry birds" often attack pedestrians or cyclists. The young Belgian star Remco Evenepoel has also encountered the birds. "One flew very close and even chased me. It was terrifying. But that's Australia, apparently," said the Vuelta-Champion.

Many Australians are more afraid of swooping attacks than snakes or spiders. There are even special bicycle helmets with spikes to deter the birds.
