Eleonora Gasparrini has defended her title at the Women's Grand Prix Stuttgart & Region (1.Pro). The Italian ended a breakaway attempt by Liane Lippert and Linda Riedmann 2500 metres before the finish, went on the offensive herself and could no longer be caught by the chasers.

Second behind Gasparrini (UAE Team ADQ) was Cat Ferguson (Movistar), Riedmann finished third in the jersey of the German national team. The chasers had sprinted behind Gasparrini on the finishing straight in Stuttgart, as she had already allowed them to coast in the final metres. Nevertheless, it was ultimately a commanding victory.

Gasparrini thus continues the Italian dominance in the third edition of the only remaining professional race for women on German soil. Before the 23-year-old was victorious last year, Elena Pirrone had won the premiere. "The course here just suits me," said the two-time Stuttgart winner, who has won a total of seven times so far. "We had a strong team here at the start. I was able to save energy for a long time. That helped me in the end. I attacked at roughly the same point as last year."

124 kilometres from Filderstadt to Stuttgart were on the programme. The final laps remained unchanged compared to the previous year, only the approach was new due to the new start location. Several big names made an appearance in the hilly first part of the race. Kasia Niewiadoma (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto), Yara Kastelijn (Alpecin - Deceuninck), Justine Ghekire (AG Insurance - Soudal Team) and Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ) were active and joined the group.

However, this was too dangerous for the rest of the field and the group was quickly brought back. Individual riders then tried their luck, with Bodine Vollering (VolkerWessels Cycling Team) going furthest. The sister of top star Demi Vollering made it as far as the Stuttgart city area, but was caught 30 kilometres before the finish.

Karlijn Swinkels (UAE Team ADQ) broke away from the field on the first crossing of the decisive Hasenbergsteige. The Dutchwoman made it deep into the finale with a lead of half a minute and was only caught 3.8 kilometres before the finish when the race entered this climb for the last time. There, Lippert and Riedmann made common cause and rode a few metres clear of the small peloton. But that wasn't going to be enough. When they were caught by their pursuers after 2.5 kilometres, Gasparrini made her move, which no one was able to counter.
