The 36-year-old is leaving the Belgian professional racing team Lotto-Soudal and joining the Continental team rad-net Oßwald, where he has signed a two-year contract. This was announced by the team, which has traditionally focussed on track cycling.
Born in Eisenhüttenstadt, he wants to focus on the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. "Of course I would have liked to continue racing at WorldTour level, but I'm happy to be with rad-net Oßwald," said Kluge.
The team is regarded as a focal point for young talent and plays an important role in German track cycling in particular. On the team, which previously raced under the name rad-net Rose, he will meet team-mate Theo Reinhardt, with whom he won the Madison title at the European Championships in mid-August.
Kluge was mostly used as a helper on the road, his biggest victory coming with a stage win at the 2016 Giro d'Italia. Kluge was more successful on the track, where he had already won Olympic silver in the points race in Beijing in 2008. He also won the silver medal in this discipline at the World Championships in October.
