Belgian cycling star Wout van Aert has extended his contract with the Dutch Jumbo-Visma racing team ahead of schedule, as the team announced.

The Belgian's new contract is valid until 2026. Van Aert is currently in Wollongong, Australia, and is one of the favourites to win the World Championship title in the road race on Sunday.

Van Aert with many big victories

The 28-year-old is one of the biggest stars in cycling. In the summer, he won three stages and the green jersey for the best points scorer at the Tour de France. At the same time, he was a noble assistant to the Danish Tour champion Jonas Vingegaard. He also won several classics such as Milan-SanremoGent-Wevelgem or the Amstel Gold Race.

"I was surprised that the team wanted to negotiate my contract again, but it's a nice recognition. A long-term partnership is not a risk because we've been getting better and better in recent years," said van Aert, who has been riding for Jumbo-Visma since 2019.
