Rick Zabel extends contract with Israel-Premier Tech

Rick Zabel will remain with the Israel-Premier Tech cycling team for another two years. The 28-year-old has extended his contract until the end of 2024, as the team announced.

"Everyone knows it's been a difficult year for us, but we are very motivated to come back stronger. I want to play a key role in our sprint train," said Zabel.

The team is still competing in the World Tour, the highest league in cycling. However, the team is only in 20th place in the UCI's three-year points ranking.

• Fear of relegation is rife in cycling

Only the best 18 teams will be considered when the licence is awarded for the next three years, which will take place in November. This means that Israel-Premier Tech would have to start as a ProContinental team in future and would no longer be automatically invited to the most important races.
