As announced by the UCI, overall and stage victories in the Tour de Francethe Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta a Espana will be rated higher in future. In addition, the points for the five cycling monuments (Milan-Sanremo, Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour of Lombardy) have been significantly increased. This was the federation's response to criticism from riders and teams. Previously, it was possible to score more points in a second or third-class race than in a Tour stage win.
You now receive 210 instead of 120 points for a one-day victory in France and 800 instead of 500 points for a victory in a monument. Previously, only the points earned by the ten best riders in a team were included in the classification. In future, it will be 20 professionals. The points for an Olympic victory or a World Championship success have also been increased.
The licences for the WorldTour are renewed every three years. As a member of the elite class, a team automatically takes part in the most important races. At the end of last season, one cycle ended and the Belgian team Lotto Soudal was relegated to the ProContinental division, as was the Israel Premier Tech team with four-time Tour winner Chris Froome. Thanks to a special regulation, Israel Premier Tech will nevertheless receive automatic invitations to all races except the three major national tours.
