The 28-year-old Cologne native from Team Bora-Hansgrohe finished the 78th edition of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium in seventh place with the first chasing pack.
Victory after 207.3 kilometres from Ghent to Ninove went to Dutchman Dylan van Baarle (Jumbo-Visma). The 30-year-old Paris-Roubaix winner from last year came out on top as a soloist with a 20-second lead over Arnaud De Lie (Lotto-Dstny). The Belgian won the sprint of the chasers in his home country ahead of the Frenchman Christophe Laporte (Jumbo-Visma).
