One week before the start of the women's Tour de France, the Italian Elena Pirrone has won the premiere of the Grand Prix Stuttgart.
The former junior world champion won solo after 125 kilometres ahead of Austria's Kathrin Schweinberger and Linda Riedmann from Karbach.
Gran Prix Stuttgart new to the women's racing calendar
The race was a new addition to the racing calendar this year and is intended to give women's cycling a further boost. The sporting director of the event is Lisa Brennauer. The Olympic track cycling champion in the quad ended her career last year. On Saturday, Brennauer announced the birth of her son on her Instagram account.
