Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) deservedly came out on top after 215 kilometres on the German Cycling Championship circuit between Donaueschingen and Bad Dürrheim, relegating his two team-mates Nico Denz and Maximilian Schachmann to second and third place. Team Bora-Hansgrohe thus put in a dominant performance.
With 30 kilometres to go, a large chasing group formed around Jonas Rutsch, Georg Zimmermann and Juri Hollmann. However, they were unable to close the gap on Buchmann, who was able to keep up the pace. After an attack by Nico Denz, only Maximilian Schachmann was able to catch up again after a short chase, and they broke away from the chasing group in a one-two. However, the two riders were unable to catch up with their team-mate in the lead, but still managed to finish on the podium.
This is Buchmann's second German championship title after a long period of suffering, having first won in 2015, so the 30-year-old is in brilliant form just before the start of the Tour de France.
