A World Tour race and a Women's World Tour race are to be held in Denmark from 2025 under the name "WorldTour Copenhagen". This is reported by the newspaper Ekstra Bladet. Official confirmation from the UCI is still pending.

Jonas Vingegaard, a Dane, has won the last two editions of the Tour de France won. However, the country does not yet have its own World Tour race. This is set to change from 2025, when the capital city of Copenhagen will probably have a competition at the very highest level for men and women. Copenhagen's mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen confirmed this to the newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

I am very excited that we now have our own World Tour race on a par with Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Paris-Roubaix. - Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Mayor of Copenhagen

From Roskilde to the centre of Copenhagen?

Little is known so far about the possible routes. According to the report by Ekstra Bladet will start in Roskilde and finish in the centre of Copenhagen, with the presentation of the route planned for 2024. The newspaper gives May or early June 2025 as the date for the race.

Copenhagen has already organised the Grand Depart of the men's Tour de France in 2022. Mayor Hæstorp Andersen is delighted that the women's elite will now also be coming to the capital. "Now the women will also be at the front. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig representing her team on the streets of Copenhagen."
