"I've had a bad cold and have been trying to revitalise myself and find new energy for a few days - but that didn't work out," said last year's overall runner-up in tears after the second round of the series in the Berlin velodrome. At the start of the competitions, Friedrich finished last in her keirin preliminary race.
Before Friedrich, defending champion Emma Hinze from Cottbus had won her sixth world championship title in France in October. completely dispensed with the series. The 25-year-old is taking a break from racing until the European Championships in Grenchen, Switzerland, in February. Four-time team sprint world champion Pauline Grabosch from Cottbus was unable to get involved in the decisions in front of 3,400 spectators and was eliminated in the first round.
The most valuable result from a German perspective was achieved by Stefan Bötticher from Chemnitz. The German champion took third place in the keirin behind the two top riders Harrie Lavreysen from the Netherlands and Matthew Richardson from Australia and thus also remained in third place in the overall standings. In the men's endurance category, Berlin's Moritz Malcharek remains in sixth place. In the women's endurance category, debutant Lea Lin Teutenberg from Cologne dropped back to 12th place.
