Based on a vote on its website, the Bavarian State Association for the Preservation of Local History has awarded the planned demolition of the Nuremberg racecourse the "Demolition of the Year" negative prize. Built in 1904, the racecourse in Nuremberg-Reichelsdorf has been unused since 2018 because it is dilapidated. The original plan was to demolish the track and build a new velodrome with a performance centre.
However, the Association of German Cyclists decided in favour of Cologne as the location. Now the track is to be demolished in order to build flats on the site. An initiative had been fighting for years to preserve the historic cycling track at Reichelsdorfer Keller. It is not yet clear when the demolition will begin. Most recently, there were lawsuits against the new construction plans.
