Lotte Kopecky won the Nokere Koerse half-classic cycling race with an emotional solo.

The 27-year-old took part in the race in her native Belgium just four days after the death of her brother Seppe and came out on top with an attack around seven kilometres before the finish.

"These were not easy days. I rode for two today," said Kopecky. "I decided to do the race. I just wanted to do it." Kopecky crossed the finish line with his head down and not cheering.

Seppe Kopecky died suddenly last Saturday at the age of just 29. He got his younger sister into cycling and was a triathlete himself. On Sunday, first division football club RSC Anderlecht, of which Kopecky was a fan, honoured him with a minute's silence.
