German Tour hopeful Lennard Kämna will tackle the Giro d'Italia next year, while former Tour fourth-placed Emanuel Buchmann wants to shine once again in France.

Kämna wants to set his sights on a place in the overall standings at a major cycling tour for the first time in 2023, having already won stages at the Tour and the Giro in recent years.

"I'm 26 now. Now the time is slowly coming when you say you're either going to give it a go or not," said Kämna in a media round at the training camp in Mallorca: "If I'm feeling good, ready and fit, I'm certainly not going to deliberately lose time in the first week. I'll see how far I can get."

Kämna with all the freedom

The former junior world champion, who wants to skip the Tour de France, will enjoy complete freedom. The Russian Aleksandr Vlasov is set to be the Giro captain in the German Bora-hansgrohe team.

Last year, the German cycling team won a grand tour for the first time with Australian Jai Hindley at the Giro. Hindley is now set to lead the team in the Tour, and Buchmann could also play a role.

Buchmann starts at Tour de France

In 2019, the climbing specialist finished fourth overall, having been set back by illness and crashes in the past three years.

"It was frustrating at times," Buchmann admitted and said with a view to the Tour: "If I'm in top form, I hope that I can ride pretty far up front. You never know what will happen in a three-week tour. That's why it's good to have two leaders."
