Verve Cycling is a new supplier entering the power meter market. Unlike cranks that measure the deformation in the crank spider according to the SRM principle, the Infocrank has four strain gauges in milled oval openings in the aluminium crank arms. This makes it possible to measure the power of the left and right leg separately. Only the portion of the forces applied that contributes to the propulsion of the wheel is used to calculate the power. Deviations due to different temperatures are equalised within the system. The power meter is battery-operated and works with commercially available button cells, which the user can also change themselves. The manufacturer promises a battery life of over 500 hours. Cadence, torque and power are transmitted using the current ANT+ protocol, making the crank compatible with many bike computers. The first 1,000 orders will be delivered with a free O-Synce Navi2Coach computer. The system is available immediately as a compact crank with 50/34 or 52/36, a version with a 130-millimetre bolt circle will follow in a few months. The price will be around 1,500 euros including bearings and chainrings from PraxisWorks. A version with an adjustable crank length between 130 and 180 millimetres should be of interest to bike fitters and trainers.
