With the start of the European Football Championship, Manuel Neuer is in the media spotlight. He won't have time for racing bike tours for the time being. But anyone who has been reading TOUR for a while knows that Neuer is also a keen racing cyclist. His love of narrow tyres was also a reason for his latest investment. He bought 65.6 per cent of Rad Race GmbH through his company MN Business GmbH.

Rad Race founders Ingo Engelhardt and Jan Sprünken will remain minority shareholders and managing directors. Rad Race has been active for years as an organiser of events such as the Tour de Friends and Fixed 42 - most recently the Hamburg-based company supported the Race 120 bike. The company was founded by Ingo Engelhardt in 2013 and initially became known primarily through events in the fixie scene.

Manuel Neuer as a source of ideas

Neuer not only contributed the money, but also the first concrete idea: the opening of the Canyon showroom in Berlin was his suggestion. "He is very actively involved and we make strategic decisions together. We speak regularly on the phone and have known each other for years," Ingo Engelhardt explained to TOUR. He also assures us that Neuer "really does ride a road bike or gravel bike on a regular basis." Neuer has also been on road bike holidays with the Rad Race Crew.

How soon he will have time for road bike tours again depends primarily on the success of the German national football team. Of course, football fans in Germany are hoping that he will only have time for his next road bike tour after the final in Berlin.

The bike race events

Rad Race is organising various cycling events in 2024, including bike races, bike tours and a bike festival. The events included a training camp in Mallorca, a race called "Last Wo/Man Standing" and another called "Rad Race One Twenty". There is also a 96-hour time trial, an event called "Fixed 42" and a ride called "Tour de Friends".
