Olav Kooij wins the 5th stage of Paris-Nice 2023
Dutch rider Olav Kooij has secured the stage win on stage 5 of Paris-Nice 2023. The yellow jersey remains on the shoulders of Tadej Pogacar, who lost some time.

The 5th stage of Paris-Nice 2023 was also the longest of this year's long-distance race. After 212.4 kilometres between Saint-Symphorien-sur-Coise and Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateau, there was a bunch sprint won by Dutch rider Olav Kooij (Jumbo-Visma) in its favour.

Kanter sprints to fifth place

The former speed skater broke away from the slipstream of Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) and could no longer be caught. Behind him, Pedersen took second place. Third place went to Tim Merlier (Soudal - Quick Step). The best German was Max Kanter (Movistar) in fifth place.

There were no shifts in the top 10 in the overall standings, although the leader Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) to second-placed David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) lost some time. The Frenchman secured six bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint, Pogacar only two. This reduced Gaudu's deficit to six seconds in the overall standings.
