The Tour of Scandinavia was supposed to celebrate its comeback in 2025 after being completely cancelled last year. But now there is sad certainty: the stage race is history.

The organisers of the Tour of Scandinavia, a stage race on the Women's World Tour calendar, have announced the end of the race. The race had already been cut from six to five stages in 2023 for financial reasons.

According to a press release, this decision was made at an extraordinary general meeting. The organisers look back wistfully on the ten-year history of the Tour of Scandinavia: "It has been a fantastic journey with many magical moments, both in sporting and organisational terms, but on reflection we realise that we have reached the end of the road."

Difficulties

Following the cancellation of last year's tour, much has been done to revive the tour. However, the organisers have to admit that they have not succeeded in making the brand attractive to media, sponsors and other important players in Norway. This has resulted in the difficulty of creating a sustainable financial platform. It also requires both internal and external enthusiasm to organise a professional cycling race at the highest level. Without the support of national TV stations and sponsors, it would not have been possible to rekindle the enthusiasm.

Review

After the admission, the organisers look back: "We dared to be innovative and were an important driver for the development of international women's cycling. We are proud of what we have created and are pleased to be remembered as one of the best and most recognised races on the women's World Tour calendar."
