According to the French bike manufacturer, the revised 785 Huez is a "race bike with a focus on mountains and marathons". Accordingly, the development department in Nevers focussed on a carbon frame that is as light as possible. This weighs 980 grams in the medium frame size. A respectable value, which the former pioneer in carbon frame construction achieves thanks to high-quality fibres and thin-walled tubes. But nothing more. Proven lightweight construction experts base their designs on frames that are up to 180 grams lighter, and even aerodynamically optimised bikes are not much heavier. For comparison: For the 795 Blade RS, the workhorse of Team Cofidis with Simon GeschkeLook quotes a frame weight of 890 grams (size S). The French company did not disclose the complete bike weight of the 785 Huez.
In terms of frame geometry, the new model strikes a compromise between sportiness and comfort. With an STR ratio of 1.47 (size M), you sit less stretched out than on a fast competition bike, but more sporty than on a marathon bike suitable for long distances. Overall, the frame set is unspectacular and emphasises user-friendliness: maintenance and position adjustment are relatively easy thanks to the two-piece handlebar-stem combination with partially integrated cables and round seat post with external clamp. The standard 25-millimetre tyres, on the other hand, have fallen out of time. The fork and frame still offer space for tyres up to 32 millimetres wide.
Look offers the 785 Huez in four equipment variants between 3390 and 6490 euros. A frame set is also available for 2490 euros. The base model is the only version with mechanical shifting; all other bikes change gears at the touch of a button. The stem and handlebars are made of aluminium on all bikes, carbon rims are only used on the two top models. The new model is now available in five frame sizes.
