Van Rysel EDR CF Ultra: Endurance road bike for cycling marathons and ultracycling

The cycling brand Van Rysel from Flanders presents the EDR CF Ultra, a new endurance racing bike. According to the manufacturer, the model has been specially developed for multi-day adventures, ultra-distances and demanding cycling marathons. After entering top-level sport with the RCR series, which was launched by the UCI Pro Team Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale Van Rysel is focussing on endurance athletes with the endurance racing bike. The EDR CF Ultra is designed to combine the DNA of racing with technology tailored to long distances.

Frame and geometry for comfort on the long haul

The centrepiece of the Van Rysel EDR CF Ultra is a high-modulus carbon frame weighing 830 grams in size M. Compared to the RCR series, the bike has a geometry with a higher stack height and shorter reach, which, according to Van Rysel, should ensure greater comfort over long distances. A special carbon construction offers targeted compliance in the area of the bottom bracket and the rear dropouts without compromising the responsiveness of the frame. The semi-integrated headset enables quick adjustments and uncomplicated maintenance.

Equipment and features

The endurance racing bike was developed from the ground up as a new platform that is specially tailored to the requirements of ultra-endurance riders. The features include tyre clearance of up to 38 millimetres, which is intended to offer comfort and safety on a wide variety of surfaces. The bike has three bottle cage mounts, including one under the down tube. It is also compatible with mudguards, which should increase versatility in all weathers. A special handlebar was developed in collaboration with Deda, which offers space for aerobars and other accessories.

Victor Bouscavet has already ridden his first race on the bike. Just two days ago, he reached the finish line of the Bright Midnight gravel ultracycling race - in second place. Although gravel is not the bike's actual area of use, the roughness of the surface is of course important. With 38 millimetres of tyre clearance, there can also be rougher passages.

Model variants and availability of the endurance racer

The EDR CF Ultra has been available to pre-order in France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands since 8 July. It will then be available online in all other EU countries and the UK from 22 July. In addition to the standard model, Van Rysel is also offering an EDR CF Ultra LTD Edition. This version is equipped with a hub dynamo developed jointly with DT Swiss and Shutter Precision and features integrated lighting and a USB charging port with internal cable routing. According to the manufacturer, this equipment is particularly suitable for self-supported races or long tours off the beaten track.

Use in the professional sector

The EDR CF Ultra will be used this summer by Victor Bouscavet, Van Rysel's new endurance ambassador, in ultra-distance races throughout Europe. Planned races include Norway and France.
