The Trek Domane SL and the Trek Domane SLR are entering their fourth generation. The US bike manufacturer is launching an even lighter bike on the market compared to the previous models.
The proven and revised IsoSpeed system at the rear is designed to save weight. However, unlike the Predecessor model no longer individually adjustable. The suspension system at the front has been completely omitted to reduce weight. The SLR version uses OCLV carbon frame material, which makes the marathon racer even lighter. For the complete bikes, Trek claims a total weight reduction of 700 grams for the SLR and 300 grams for the Domane SL.
A lot has also been done on the Trek Domane in terms of aerodynamics. It is equipped with KVF (Kammtail Virtual Foil) tube profiles and a new cockpit. The unconventional tube profile is intended to transfer the advantages of aerofoil profiles to the racing bike. In addition, the D-shaped seat post is also intended to improve aerodynamics. However, the manufacturer does not provide any specific figures.
The Trek Domane has also been equipped with a new stem: the RCS Pro. This is an integrated stem that is designed to be compatible with various road bike models. Cables and wires are hidden. It should be possible to change to other stem sizes without removing brake lines and shift cables. The RCS Pro is available with -7 degrees and +7 degrees rise.
There is also a race-orientated version of the Trek Domane with the RSL frameset, which was used in Elisa Longo Borghini's triumph at the women's Paris Roubaix in 2022. RSL stands for Race Shop Limited and is equipped with a race-orientated H1.5 geometry, which is based on the Trek Madone and Trek Emonda. By dispensing with a storage compartment in the down tube, an additional 100 grams are to be saved compared to the SLR frame.
The SL and SLR, on the other hand, have endurance geometry. A higher top tube and a longer wheelbase are intended to provide more comfort and stability. With the RSL frameset, the tyre width is limited to 35 millimetres, while the SL and SLR can be fitted with tyres up to 38 millimetres wide.
The cheapest SL version of the Domane, with mechanical Shimano 105 and Bontrager Paradigm alloy wheels, is available for 3499 euros. At the other end of the scale is the Domane SL 7 eTap for 7699 euros with Bontrager Aeolus and SRAM Force eTap.
The cheapest SLR model with Bontrager Aeolus and Shimano 105 Di2 2x12 costs 7499 euros, while the most expensive version with Bontrager Aeolus and SRAM Red eTap AXS 2x12 costs 13999 euros.
The Domane framesets are also available for sale individually. The price for the SL version is 2999 euros, the SLR version costs 4999 euros, just like the RSL version. More information on the prices can be found here.
