Inexpensive, functional, suitable for the mountains: Shimano's new 105 Di2 is predestined for marathon bikes. TOUR tested nine current models. Here: The Canyon Endurace CF 7 Di2.

Canyon Endurace CF 7 Di2 - Solid endurance bike

Canyon equips a variant of the Endurace endurance classic with Shimano's 105 Di2, which has been fundamentally revised for the 2023 model year. Most recently, the Endurace CF SL, equipped with electronic Ultegra for just under 4000 euros, demonstrated its skills in the TOUR test In view of this, the current test bike with a twelve-speed 105 for € 1300 less seems to be a good deal - especially as the frame of the simpler version tested here (without SL) is no heavier.

Nevertheless, the "simpler" Endurace comes with a few differences that can explain the big price difference. For example, the cheaper bike lacks the leaf spring seatpost and the one-piece carbon handlebar unit, instead using conventional components. In addition, the head tube is around one centimetre longer than on the SL and SLX versions, meaning that the riding position is (even) more upright. Nevertheless, with the CF 7 you get a lot, and depending on how you look at it, even more bike for your money.

For example, the attachment points for the top tube bag are only available on the inexpensive Endurace CF. In addition, the round carbon seatpost is hardly less comfortable than the leaf spring seatpost on more expensive models. For even more suspension, the frame set can take tyres up to 35 millimetres wide - another difference to the more expensive SL and SLX versions - so off-road use is also conceivable.

Many people also see the fact that a classic clamped handlebar made of aluminium is fitted as an advantage: the stem and handlebar can be individually adjusted or replaced easily and inexpensively if necessary, which is significantly less work, especially after a crash.
