The acceptance of road bikes with electronic shifting is increasing, but models with mechanical groupsets still have their fans. The Stevens Izoard Pro Disc in the TOUR test.

Stevens Izoard Pro Disc - Sprinting speedster

The Izoard Pro Disc is coming in model year 2023 with a new glitter finish, but its character remains unchanged. The racer from Hamburg remains somewhere between a marathon and competition model - and can be customised depending on the equipment in Stevens' modular system. The basic version tested by TOUR shifts mechanically and, thanks to its flat aluminium wheels, can be seen as an endurance bike with a sporty touch.

The Izoard Pro really comes into its own when it comes to handling and the saddle and fork are extremely firm. More suspension comfort - at least at the rear - could be achieved with the carbon seatpost (59 euros) available in the configurator. The maximum tyre clearance is already achieved ex works with the 28-millimetre tyres. Contrary to the latest developments in the marathon segment, with an increasingly upright riding position and an STR ratio of around 1.60, you sit relatively stretched out on the Stevens.

Lightweight wheels

The integrated cables on the handlebar/stem unit reflect the current trend and give the Izoard Pro a modern look, but require more maintenance. In terms of weight, the lightweight aluminium wheels conceal the relatively heavy frame set for a carbon model and make the torsion-resistant Stevens a fast sprinter on flat terrain.

It doesn't necessarily feel at home in mountainous terrain, as the smallest gear is relatively tight at 34 to 28 teeth. However, the racer can also be equipped with a 1:1 mountain transmission in the modular system. In addition to the version with an eleven-speed 105, only electronic groupsets are available at prices between 3199 euros with Shimano 105 Di2 and 6199 euros with SRAM Red eTap.
