Electronic suspension comfort in the new Pinarello K10S Disk
Pinarello's new endurance model Dogma K10S Disk promises comfort at an unprecedented level - thanks to electro-hydraulic rear suspension.

Pinarello wants to tackle torture tracks such as the cobblestone classic Paris-Roubaix with an electronically controlled rear suspension system. The system called eDSS 2.0 (for "Electronic Dogma Suspension System") has now been presented on the new Dogma K10S Disk. According to Pinarello, the technology has already passed its baptism of fire with the pros. Team Sky riders tested eDSS 2.0 last April in a number of spring classics.

The frame of the Dogma K10S Disk has the same tube profile as the aerodynamic high-flyer Dogma F10, which Sky pro Chris Froome recently rode to his fourth Tour de France victory. In contrast to the Dogma F10, however, the head tube is slightly longer and therefore allows for a more comfortable riding position. In addition, the Dogma K10S Disk has extremely flat chainstays, a better suspension seatpost, a longer wheelbase and more space for the tyres (up to 28 millimetres). Compared to the Dogma F10, the Dogma K10S Disk is probably the much more comfortable road bike.

How the electronic suspension works

The really exciting innovation on the Dogma K10S Disk is the eDSS 2.0 rear suspension. This is a further development of the suspension system that Pinarello introduced on the Dogma K8S in 2015. A simple elastomer in the seat stays allows up to ten millimetres of suspension travel. On the Dogma K10S Disk, the elastomer is supplemented by a hydraulic lockout system that regulates whether and how much the rear triangle compresses. The system receives the corresponding signals via a combination of acceleration sensors and gyroscopes in the seat tube of the frame.

The system can be customised to the rider's needs and preferences either via a module on the frame or an app control running on Garmin Edge computers. This allows the system to be activated and deactivated during the ride. You can also choose between a hard and a soft setting. This means that the system can be adjusted to different road conditions while riding.

Pinarello did not provide any further details on exactly how eDSS 2.0 works. Prices for the planned equipment variants with the top groupsets from all three groupset manufacturers have also not yet been announced.
