After the Diamante competition bike, Basso is also relaunching its marathon racing bike with the Astra. The traditional manufacturer has given the new model a comfortable look with an extremely upright riding position and plenty of tyre clearance. The Basso racing bike will be available from January for between 4195 and 5775 euros.

A little more than 30 years after the original model, the Italians are presenting a new development that differs significantly from the previous models. Diamante competition racing bikes and Diamante SV. This is mainly due to the comfort-orientated geometry of the Basso Astra, whose head tube is even higher than its predecessor and puts the rider in an extremely upright riding position. According to the manufacturer, the STR - the ratio of frame length to frame height - is 1.58. There are currently only a few endurance racing bikes on which you can sit more upright.

The relatively large tyre clearance underlines the long-distance suitability of the Basso Astra, which rolls on tyres of up to 35 millimetres and thus competes with all-road bikes such as the BMC Roadmachine X or Canyon Endurace CF7 All-Road. In addition to the tyres, the flattened seat post with adjustable setback and the low-set seat stays are designed to increase suspension comfort.

Compared to its predecessor, the cables are integrated into the handlebars and are routed into the head tube below the stem. The so-called Paradigma system is also compatible with mechanical groupsets and is designed to allow the height of the handlebars to be adjusted without separating the cables. In addition, a number of accessories such as a Knog battery light can be attached to the Astra as discreetly as possible using special brackets.

The Basso Astra is available with either an electronic groupset from Shimano (105 Di2, Ultegra Di2) and SRAM (Rival eTap, Force eTap) or a mechanical groupset from Campagnolo (Chorus).
