The Taiwanese bike manufacturer is launching a new edition of the Defy marathon model for 2019. The most remarkable innovation: for the first time on a road bike under €5,000, a power meter comes as standard.

More tyre clearance, better suspension comfort, integrated cables for brakes and gears: most of the new Defy Advanced Pro 0's innovations were to be expected given the current trends in road bike construction. But not that the top model Defy Advanced Pro 0 for 4,799 euros has a power meter on board as standard. The Power Pro system developed by Giant measures the power on both cranks and can be connected to all standard ANT+-compatible bike computers. It cannot be ruled out that the Taiwanese manufacturer is starting a new trend. Until now, the expensive power measurement technology has only been standard on a few high-end models over €10,000. In the medium term, Giant's move could mean that power measurement will soon reach a wider range of users.

The new Defy would be a remarkable bike even without a performance measurement. Because there is not much that can be improved on the top model Defy Advanced Pro 0. With the complete Ultegra Di2 groupset including hydraulic disc brakes, carbon wheels, 28 millimetre wide tubeless tyres and cleverly designed add-on parts, the bike offers plenty of technology at a high level. Of particular interest is the D-Fuse carbon handlebar, which is designed as a suspension element thanks to its profile and special fibre coating. The Defy also offers remarkably good suspension at the rear thanks to the D-Fuse carbon seat post.

A first test of the Defy Advanced Pro 0 will appear in the October issue of TOUR.
