Marathon bike or gravel bike? This question arises with the Endurace CF 7 All-Road. After all, the Canyon makes full use of its maximum tyre clearance and rolls on 35-millimetre tyres. The combination of voluminous off-road tyres and the relaxed frame geometry of the Endurace should result in a bike "that is ready for any surface", according to the Koblenz-based company. However, the approach is not new; other manufacturers also have modified all-road variants in their programme.
The CF 7 All-Road stands out with its wide standard tyres. Unevenness, whether on tarmac or gravel, is smoothed out in the style of a thoroughbred gravel bike, and the comfortably tuned frame emphasises this impression. The fact that the Endurace is actually designed for narrower tyres is evident in the steering behaviour. Although the All-Road impresses with excellent directional stability, it reacts unusually sluggishly to quick changes of direction, which is particularly noticeable on paved roads. In addition, the relatively high weight of the wheels and tyres dampens the agility.
At € 2999, the Canyon is the second cheapest model in this test group with electronic shifting, and the gear reduction makes it easier to climb the steepest climbs. Hobby mechanics will appreciate the external cables. There are threaded eyelets on the top tube to attach a small bag for a puncture repair kit.
Back to the initial question: Although the CF 7 All-Road is ready for any surface, it offers the most riding fun off-road thanks to its wide tyres. For long tours on tarmac, lighter models from the Endurace range are the better alternative.
Strengthsvery good damping, attractive price, many frame sizes
Weaknessesrelatively heavy, sluggish handlebar behaviour
In addition to the Canyon Endurace CF 7 All-Road, we also tested the Cannondale Synapse Carbon 2 RL, the Cube Agree C:62, the Giant Defy Advanced 1, the Specialized Roubaix Comp and the Trek Domane SLR 7 in our endurance road bike test.
