They still exist: racing bikes with sophisticated technology and great riding characteristics that don't cost a fortune. They can be found in specialised shops - and increasingly also on the internet - as marathon racing bikes, sometimes also as endurance racing bikes. The terms are intended to make it clear that these bikes are better tailored to the requirements of hobby cyclists than the racing bikes of professionals. The main difference between them is that the handlebars and saddle are closer together; at the same time, the handlebars are positioned slightly higher. This means that the rider sits more upright and less stretched out. Tyres with a width of up to 32 millimetres are also designed to increase comfort.
