Savings offensive: 1,100 euros maximum price instead of 1,100 grams maximum weight: Ten racers in the TOUR test prove that riding fun doesn't have to be expensive. (TOUR 2/2005)

When spring breaks out here in Germany, eagerly awaited by everyone, it will be like every year: the sun will prevail against the cold and darkness with might and main - and happy is the person who can then, poof, get a race bike out of the cellar ready to go. For everyone else: let's get going. A racing bike is a must - preferably before the run on the bike shops begins in April and the delivery times for popular models cause long faces.

The only question is: How much does the fun cost? Is 1,000 euros enough? After all, the last test of the carbon treasures showed that you can easily spend more than six times that amount on contemporary racing bike art? So let's take a look at what the inclined buyer will get for around 1,000 euros in spring 2005.

You can find these models in the test:
Bergamont Dolce Comp, Bianchi Via Nirone 7, Corratec Pro Race, Cube Attempt, Felt F70, Fort RO.SLC, Ghost Race 5000, Hai Way, Specialised Allez Sport, Jan Ullrich Oslo
