"Strong frontal impacts, e.g. an impact through a deep pothole with considerable force, can put excessive strain on the headset and cause a crack in the steerer tube. A damaged fork can break if it continues to be used and lead to the risk of falling and injury," is the reason given.
The new models with integrated cable routing are affected. On its Homepage Specialized has listed all affected SL7 models.
Owners are asked to stop riding their bikes and contact an authorised Specialized dealer to make an appointment to have the parts replaced. According to Specialized, there have been no reports of injuries to date - the recall is a precautionary measure.
