The OCLV carbon series, introduced by Trek in 1992, is history: the Americans present a completely new series of the "Madone".

Everything is new in May - albeit at the last minute: on the 31st of that month, US manufacturer Trek presented the new generation of its OCLV carbon frames at Michigan Lake in Milwaukee, and after 15 years, suddenly (almost) everything is different: the new "Madone" rolls in with sloping geometry, flowing shapes wherever you look. With the introduction of the new Madone generation, Trek itself says: "Everything else is history" and banishes the previous Madone models to the museum, which were good enough to carry Lance Armstrong to seven victories in the Tour de France.

The label "OCLV", which designates the base material, has remained: it stands for "optimum compaction, low void" and describes the efforts to arrange the carbon fibres as compactly as possible and to reduce the proportion of supporting resin matrix. To describe the quality of the fibres used in more detail, Trek now uses a colour code instead of the usual numbers: "Red" indicates the best quality, with which the lightest and stiffest frames can be built. Our test bike "Madone 5.2" is labelled "Black", which corresponds to the medium quality, while "White" stands for the lightest quality.
