Manufacturers of luxury goods are currently experiencing golden times. Whether cars, fashion or watches: Things that supposedly make life more beautiful and put their owners in a radiant light seem to be selling like hot cakes around the globe. It's a trend that is not passing the road bike market by. There is hardly a brand that does not charge a five-figure price for its top model. However, at least in this country, the market for luxury on two narrow tyres still seems to have room for improvement.
If you believe the statements of many manufacturers, extremely expensive racing bikes sell rather sluggishly in Germany. German racing cyclists are considered to be a target group with high purchasing power, but extremely price-sensitive, who are also very well informed thanks to objective and critical tests. In addition, mail order companies play a bigger role in Germany than in other countries, keeping prices under pressure. If Canyon offers its top model Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Aero, which has everything that is good and expensive, for 8,000 euros, it will be difficult for other suppliers to charge 10,000 euros or more for similar quality. Nevertheless, German manufacturers are also recognising the trend towards high-end road bikes and are trying to participate in it, especially those who want to expand internationally.
