Titanium is considered the noblest material used in frame construction. A frame made of this precious light metal can easily cost €3,000 or more - especially if the name of a renowned US brand is emblazoned on the down tube. You shouldn't expect the fork to be included in this price. Those who treat themselves to such a luxury frame generally not only get a superbly crafted, durable product. You can also be sure that you are riding a bike that is not available on every corner.
There is hardly anything more exclusive than a titanium racer, even expensive carbon models can't compete. However, the luxury aura of light metal is coming under increasing pressure. More and more suppliers are entering the market with titanium frames that compete with upper mid-range carbon frames in terms of price. Our test of five complete racers up to €3,000 does not prove that the competitively priced titans from the Far East or Russia are inferior or less durable than their US counterparts.
SHORT & SHORT
Good news for all those for whom titanium racers were previously too expensive: The five candidates in this test combine unproblematic riding characteristics with the indestructible surface of the noble light metal - and at very competitive prices. The test victory goes to Radon thanks to the best equipment, while Kocmo delivers the technically best frame in a close competition.
