At the latest when the clocks are turned back in October and the days only slowly get longer in spring, many racing cyclists ask themselves how they should bridge the long dark period with sport. Running, roller training, a mucki gym? If these suggestions don't warm your heart, our tip: switch to a cross bike. The long seemingly archaic off-road racer is currently experiencing an astonishing renaissance. Useful additional effect: off-road training improves your technique and coordination - which is also useful in summer when you're riding downhill and in other tricky situations.
For our test, we scrutinised eight cross racers ranging from 800 to 2,000 euros, from good-natured training crossers to purist competition bikes. And with the models from Hai - one of the few with mechanical disc brakes - and the carbon bike from Stevens, there are even two bikes that show possible future developments in cross bikes.
